Rubicon Terraforming WAV
Inspired by the sights, sounds, and scents of an imagined world, Terraforming is a gentle sonic portrait of a planet not unlike our own. Filled with soft gestures—airy pads, insect-like chirps, drifting streams, chimes, bells, flutes, and blooming synth tones—the pack paints an uplifting landscape. Its textures evoke the smell of fresh petrichor, the hush of nearby water, or the percussive rhythm of a stone skipping across a lake.
Created by sound designers Holly Waxwing and Icon Alias, Terraforming is rooted in a shared fascination with nature and the expressive possibilities of synthesis.
Holly Waxwing is a composer and sound designer based in Providence, RI. Their recent release with PC Music, The New Pastoral, has been described by Urvogel as “a painterly polyptych… defined by the sincerity of its unifying theme and its blend of pastoralism with PC Music’s ultra-slick sound.” Holly runs the sound design agency We Time Audio House, co-curated Noumenal Loom Records for a decade, and regularly contributes to citizen science work in mycology. Their haptic, deeply textural approach to sound is shaped by ASD/SPD and a lifelong synesthetic relationship with audio.
Icon Alias, based in San Diego, CA, is a sound designer and electronic musician whose work seeks out the natural world through digital means. Favoring expressive computer-driven synthesis, she shapes organic textures through playful sound design, gleeful digital manipulation, and imaginative instrument building.
Together, Holly and Icon blend Ableton’s Operator, Collision, Wavetable, and Serum to construct intricate layers of floral synths, earth-toned percussion, and luminous FM resonances. Like many ecosystems, the sounds within Terraforming form mutualistic relationships—interwoven pads, chirps, and ambient layers that grow and evolve as a single living environment.
