Course Summary

► Making the beat:

The first step is to choose the correct sounds for the beat, which includes Drum sounds, Bass, Piano, and Reversed Piano.

► Drums:

Next up you will create a Drum pattern to compliment the piano and reverse piano loop. The sparse beat created is exactly what is needed for an Artist to do their thing.

► Melody:

Next we add a melody that follows the same notes as the chords. The trick here is to play the melody in the space of the beat (Drums and Bass), which creates a groove.

► Mix Prep:

We learn how to prep our mix, gain staging our signals and routing our sounds ready for the next stage of mixing.

► Mixing:

At this stage you need to work on balancing your mix, panning sounds in the stereo field where necessary – using EQ and compression to make the sounds gel. Continue to Mix your beat using various plugins such as saturation and checking the frequency spectrum using Logic’s stock Multimeter and a Dynamic range meter to check your overall Peak and RMS levels.

► Reverb:

Work with reverb to create a sense of space to your sounds and acts as magic glue.

► Limiting:

Lastly, we look at an efficient trick to achieve loudness for your Mix. The goal here is to boost the overall level of the mix without yet Mastering. Once the levels are boosted using a Limiter the beat can then be sent to an Artist ready to record.
