DarkEffekt GrindSub v1.0.1 VST3 AU STANDALONE
GrindSub is a monophonic bass synthesizer built around one idea: a modern bass patch is really two sounds, a clean sub for weight and a gritty top for character, and they need to stay in step. GrindSub generates both layers from a single source, so the sub stays centered, phase-aligned, and in tune no matter how hard you drive the top.
Two layers, one source:
- Sub path: sine or triangle, optional octave down, saturation, level, and a long-release option. Always centered and phase-aligned with the grind, so the layers reinforce rather than cancel.
- Grind path: a morphing wavetable with up to seven unison voices, detune and spread, a resonant 24 dB filter with drive, per-voice distortion, chorus, and a stereo widener. Automatic cleanup keeps the grind out of the sub’s range, or you can set the high-pass manually.
- Widening, detune, and chorus apply to the grind only. The sub is never touched.
Shaping the top:
- Five distortion types: hard clip, tanh, cubic, sine fold, and linear fold, with drive, bias for asymmetric grit, and a mix control.
- A morphing wavetable that sweeps from saw through folded, square, and triangle, by hand or under modulation.
- Knock adds a thump and a flash of bite to the sub attack. Drop sweeps the grind down into each note for growls and zaps while the sub stays on pitch.
Consistent across the keyboard:
- Filter cutoff and modulation are set in intervals above the played note (for example, “+2 octaves”) rather than in hertz. With full keytracking the tone stays put from a low E to two octaves up.
- At full keytracking the filter self-oscillates in tune with the note you play.
- Separate level tilt controls for each layer even out loudness across the range. The default patch stays within 1.5 dB over its lowest two octaves.
Metering built for low end:
- Spectrum display with markers for the played note and the filter.
- A correlation meter split just above the fundamental, to confirm the bottom stays mono-compatible.
- Per-note loudness history, with a bar for each recent note and low ones flagged.
- Output peak and momentary loudness in the header at all times.
Modulation:
- LFO with four shapes, free-running or tempo-synced with straight, dotted, and triplet divisions, retriggered per note or locked to the song.
- Envelope with a ready-made pluck setting.
- Mod wheel as a modulation source.
- Twelve depth knobs routing every source to wavetable position, filter cutoff, resonance, and distortion, with live modulation rings on the controls.
Playing and routing:
- Retrigger and legato modes, glide up to 2 seconds on overlapping notes or every note.
- Pitch bend up to 24 semitones, adjustable velocity sensitivity, mod wheel, and sustain pedal.
- Stereo mix output plus optional separate grind and sub outputs for independent processing or sidechaining.
- 72 samples of latency, about 1.5 ms at 48 kHz, reported to the host for compensation.
Session behavior:
- Renders match playback. The same notes and automation produce the same output at any buffer size.
- Fast lines, overlapping notes, and velocity changes do not introduce clicks, and attack settings are preserved.
- Presets are plain files you can copy, back up, and share. Resizable window, tooltips throughout, double-click to reset.
