Stuttermation is a timeline-based stutter, glitch, resampling, and sound-design multi-effect for Windows VST3. Instead of relying on MIDI triggers or fixed LFO patterns, it lets you draw effect Blocks directly onto a DAW-synced timeline.
Every Block is its own sound-design event, with independent timing, rate, source, playback, gating, probability, envelopes, effects, multiband processing, and mix settings. Build precise rhythmic edits, accelerating glitches, reverse cuts, halftime chops, pitch movement, resonant textures, lo-fi destruction, animated stereo effects, and complete loop transformations inside one plugin.
Main Features
- Timeline-Based Sequencing: Draw, resize, move, marquee-select, copy, paste, and arrange Blocks across a DAW-synced timeline of up to 500 bars. Includes snap controls, cursor-centered zooming, smooth scrolling, Auto-Scroll, an interactive minimap, and Source Markers.
- Per-Block Slice Engine: Rate determines the musical slice pattern while Buffer Length, Pitch, Reverse, Alternate, Halftime, Gate, and other processing shape each slice without changing the intended slice count.
- Rate Env and Ultra-Fast Rates: Set Rate Start and Rate End or draw custom Rate Env movement. Available rates extend to 1/4096 for everything from slow rhythmic repeats to micro-stutter buzzes.
- Flexible Playback: Choose Forward, Reverse, or Alternate playback. Halftime provides slower tape-style playback while preserving the block’s rhythmic structure.
- Musical Buffer Control: Shorter Buffer Length values play only the selected portion of each slice before smoothing to silence. Longer values respect the slice pattern without unwanted pitch-changing repetition.
- Advanced Source Selection: Capture from Start of Block, Moving Playhead, Fixed Offset, or a reusable Source Marker placed on the timeline.
- Source Morph: Morph between two audio sources inside a Block. Use fixed blends, sweeps, and other movement modes, including independent Low, Mid, and High source settings in multiband mode.
- Per-Block Multiband Processing: Compatible envelopes can operate in legacy Full mode or Split mode with independent Low, Mid, and High curves. Shared crossover controls include adjustable frequencies and 12, 24, or 48 dB/oct slopes.
- Deep Envelope System: Shape Rate, Gate, Tape, Pitch, Volume, HPF, LPF, Drive, Bit Reduction, Sample Rate Reduction, Frequency Shift, Flanger, Ring Modulation, Width, Pan, Fold, Asymmetry, Mid/Side Balance, Bit Error, Noise, Dispersion, and Resonator processing.
- Reorderable FX Chain: Pitch remains fixed in its required pre-slice position, while compatible post-effects can be reordered per Block by dragging their envelope tabs.
- Input Follower: Apply the incoming signal’s dynamics to compatible effects, with per-envelope follower depth for responsive rhythmic and tonal movement.
- Gate and Transition Control: Truncate, Fade, and T-Safe gate shapes provide tight cuts, smooth exits, or transient-conscious slicing. Each Block also includes Gate, Attack, Release, and a dedicated Gate Env.
- Creative Tone Processing: Includes oversampled Drive, wavefolding, asymmetry, bit and sample-rate reduction, bit errors, noise characters, frequency shifting, ring modulation, flanging, stereo width, mid/side shaping, dispersion, tape movement, and a polyphonic Resonator with chord, octave, voice, material, decay, softness, and stereo controls.
- Envelope Editing Tools: Use up to 32 points per curve with adjustable tension, built-in shapes, copy and paste, reset, randomization, marquee point selection, group movement, vertical shifting, and per-envelope enable or disable controls.
- Generative Tools: Randomize Rate Env, FX envelopes, all envelopes, Block settings, or probability using multiple intensity levels. Disabled envelopes remain protected from randomization.
- Probability Controls: Block Probability determines whether a complete Block triggers, while Slice Probability creates controlled gaps and evolving rhythmic variations.
- Per-Block Mix and Volume: Blend each Block independently with Block Mix and increase its output up to 200%, alongside the plugin’s global Wet/Dry control and output safety stage.
- Processed Block Capture: Capture the processed output of an individual Block to WAV, then drag it directly into a compatible DAW, save it elsewhere, or reveal it in Explorer.
- Preset System: Save and browse presets through nested folders, cycle through factory and user presets, and organize custom presets using slash-based folder paths. Includes a factory preset collection from eraze the borders.
- Resizable Themed Interface: A scalable vector interface with multiple distinct themes, theme-aware Blocks, polished timeline feedback, colored envelope lanes, and persistent window preferences.
- Click-Conscious DSP: DAW-reported lookahead, smoothed block transitions, transient-aware pitch handling, high-quality interpolation modes, and adaptive entry processing help maintain clean results across drums, sustained bass, 808 tails, vocals, loops, and full arrangements.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does Stuttermation require MIDI?
No. Blocks are drawn directly onto the internal DAW-synced timeline. - Can every Block use different settings?
Yes. Timing, sources, playback, effects, envelopes, multiband behavior, probability, and mix can all vary between Blocks. - Does Stuttermation work on 808s and sustained bass?
Yes. The engine includes transition and low-frequency handling designed for sustained material and Blocks placed inside long tails. - Can I process frequency bands independently?
Yes. Compatible modules support independent Low, Mid, and High envelope curves through Split mode. - Can processed Blocks be exported?
Yes. The Capture module can create a processed WAV for drag-and-drop or manual saving. - Does Stuttermation introduce latency?
Stuttermation uses a small amount of correctly reported lookahead latency to improve transition and processing consistency. - What formats and operating systems are supported?
Stuttermation is currently available as a 64-bit VST3 for Windows.
