Produced by TAU (BW), this sample pack delivers all the essential elements of 3-step—designed to build tension layer by layer, then release it all at once. Rooted in the sounds of Kwaito and Tribal House, TAU’s deep connection to house music and African rhythms was shaped from an early age by the music played throughout his home village. That foundation now informs a sound that is both deeply personal and globally resonant.

Since 2020, TAU has released a series of acclaimed singles and EPs on respected labels including Get Physical Music, Moblak Records, and Mahaba Records (a subsidiary of Defected Records). His track “People of Shaam” topped the Traxsource charts for six consecutive weeks, while his EP “Abafazi”—created in collaboration with Thandi Draai and DA Africa Deep—stands as a powerful tribute to the struggle of women during Apartheid-era South Africa. TAU is also recognized for his official remixes of iconic records such as “Vuli Ndlela” by the late Brenda Fassie, and Mango Groove’s classic “Home Talk.”

3-step, pioneered by Thakzin—an artist from the Ivory Park township—emerged during South Africa’s 2020 lockdowns and quickly evolved into a global dance music movement. Blending influences from Amapiano, Afro House, Afrobeats, Highlife, and beyond, Thakzin stripped away traditional production expectations to focus on a single core principle: tension and release.

Named for its signature three-kick-drum framework, 3-step is defined by the jazzy horns of Highlife, the airy basslines, log drums, ad-libs, and shakers of Amapiano, Afro Tech–inspired kick grooves, and—most importantly—marching handclaps and nimble percussion. These elements echo the playful spirit of London’s broken beat (bruk) era while pushing African dance music into bold new territory.
