Plug-in suites and bundles are certainly attractive for many reasons. You get good bang for your buck, a collection of plug-ins that are designed to work together, and a well-organized layout for those plug-ins. However, with so much power and depth available, there’s usually a pretty steep learning curve involved. That’s where this Neutron 4 video course comes in. Veteran Groove3 instructor Eli Krantzberg takes you through the key components of iZotope’s Neutron 4 mixing suite, teaching you what you need to know to start using each of the 8 modules and demonstrating them so you can hear them in action. By the end of the course, you’ll be well-versed in the suite and ready to start making it a part of your daily workflow. These videos are for new Neutron 4 users.

Eli starts by giving you a tour of the “mothership” Neutron 4 interface, familiarizing you with both the Assistant View and Detailed View, so you can easily track along as the course progresses. Then it’s on to the Limiter module, where he explains the various limiter modes and styles and demonstrates how to read both peak and RMS levels. This is followed by a more in-depth look at the Assistant View and a study of presets and undo history.

Next, you’ll explore the EQ module, including adjusting the frequency scaling, using the spectrum displays, creating/removing bands, and using the Learn function, and much more. The Compressor module follows, and Eli demonstrates the detection modes, detection filter, multi-band crossover functions, and the main characteristics of the three compressors.

There’s much more covered, of course, including the Gate module (for removing unwanted noise, such as guitar amp hiss or multi-track drum bleed), Sculptor (a spectral shaper for bringing clarity), EQ Masking Meter (a visual identifier and corrective tool), Unmask Module (a dynamic side-chain tool), Transient Shaper module (for altering attack and sustain characteristics), the Exciter module (adding harmonic distortion to enhance certain elements), and more!

Check out the descriptions below for more information on the contents of each video. Neutron 4 is a formidable piece of software that’s capable of transforming your mixes, and this course will teach you everything you need to know to get started.
