Splice Sessions Island Reggae WAV
Island Reggae is Splice Sessions’ first Reggae pack from our studio time at Anguilla Music Academy. The most recent influences on Anguilla’s musical life come from neighboring islands in the Caribbean, especially the music of Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, as well as abroad from the U.S. and the UK. Anguilla’s Rastafarian heritage has played a role in the island’s music and culture, as well, making Reggae one of its most popular genres. As both islands are British Commonwealths, Anguilla and Jamaica share the prominent language of English, and both have a small population that carries on the tradition of Jamaican Patois, an English-based creole language with West African, Taíno, Irish, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Chinese, and German influences.
This pack features some of Anguilla’s most prominent musicians, listed below, including vocals from the one and only legendary Bankie Banx, known as the “Anguillan Bob Dylan”. His first album Roots and Herbs, released in 1978, pioneered reggae music in the Eastern Caribbean.
